Tens of thousands of netizens cast their votes to crown their favorite Meme of the Year, underscoring the global resonance and virality of meme culture! Triumphing with irresistible charm, Ethel The OIIA Cat clinched the “Meme of the Year” grand title, topping both the public vote and the judges’ choice. Hot on its heels is Turkish Olympic shooting silver medalist Yusuf Dikeç, whose ultra-chill, hands-in-pockets pose went viral, earning him second place. Rounding out the top three was the UK’s Downing Street “Chief Mouser” Larry The Cat, a timeless feline icon.

The “Meme69 Awards,” co-hosted by MemeStrategy and 9GAG, celebrates the distinctive cultural influence of meme culture in the digital age. The inaugural awards featured 69 iconic memes, with netizens casting their votes from June 9 to 16, 2025, to determine the top nine. The final top three were selected by a panel including András Arató, the face of the legendary “Hide the Pain Harold” meme, , and Ray Chan, Chairman and CEO of MemeStrategy. Selections were based on cultural impact, creative expression, and alignment with Web3 values.
