On 21 January 2026, Ray Chan, Chief Executive Officer of MemeStrategy (HKEX: 2440) and Co-Founder of 9GAG, participated in the panel discussion "Dialogue on Entrepreneurship & Leadership" at the Conference on the Future of Hong Kong Economy 2026, hosted by HKU Business School.

Ray shared insights on entrepreneurship, business growth, and the evolution of his company. He reflected on the humble beginnings of 9GAG, which started in his parents' home in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong. When the founding team worked there, his parents had to go out to the community center to give them space. Today, the company operates as a 100% remote organization.

At the event, Ray also discussed consumer trust with other panelists, noting that it is built upon brand consistency rather than geographic origin. He also highlighted the growing trend of IP-driven products, noting that nostalgia and the desire to recapture happy memories are powerful drivers in consumer behavior.

For consumer products, people don't care where the content is from; they care about the brand and the trust it builds. The rise of IP-driven products is fueled by nostalgia and the desire to buy back happy memories.
